Is Galaxy Watch 7 a good choice?

Vivo Watch 5 comes with BlueOS 2.0 and 22 days battery life

In China, Vivo unveiled the Vivo Watch 5, a new smartwatch, in addition to the new X200 series smartphones and a few tablets. With improvements in style, sports tracking, and health statistics, it is a gradual upgrade over the Watch 3.

On the surface, not much has changed in terms of design. The Watch 5 features a 1.43-inch curved AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 60 Hz and a brightness of up to 1500 nits, while maintaining the recognizable circular dial.

The watch now weights only 32g without the strap and comes in Night Black and Moonlight White with stainless steel or aluminum alloy bodies. Compared to the 35g frame of its predecessor, that is a slight but notable decrease. Depending on their preferences, users can select leather or silicone straps.

BlueOS 2.0 powers this year’s model, which has a few new software features. The new AI Sports Coach can monitor your running form and efficiency and even provide fat-burning training regimens depending on your heart rate in real time.

With 24-hour tracking of heart rate, blood oxygen, stress, sleep, and even involvement in blood pressure and heart health research, Vivo also boasts a more comprehensive suite of health monitoring functions.

Similar to the Watch 3, this device does not yet have a complete operating system. Although there is a working app store, third-party app support is restricted. It does, however, offer the essentials, such as notifications, music controls, and Bluetooth calling. In addition, it has a 5ATM water resistance rating, GPS for tracking outdoors, and NFC for payments.

Battery life is one of the main selling aspects. Vivo claims that because of improved power management, the Watch 5 can operate in Bluetooth mode for up to 22 days in extended use situations. Additionally, there is a new AI Smart Window feature that uses usage patterns to prioritize the information you are most likely to require.

Not all smartwatches are compatible with both iOS and Android devices, but the Watch 5 is. WeChat is directly supported on the watch for people in China.

Price and availability

The silicone strap version of the Vivo Watch 5 costs CNY 799, or about $109, while the leather strap version costs CNY 999, or about $136. Pre-orders are already being accepted, and official sales will begin on April 29. International availability is still unknown.

The designs of the Google Pixel Watch 4 renders indicate a refreshing change.

Google released the Pixel Watch 3 alongside the Pixel 9 series in mid-August 2024, with a design that was not too different from its predecessor. There was a modest reduction in bezel size, an increase in brightness, and an additional size option, but it appeared substantially unchanged.

The wristwatch was revealed earlier than usual, as Google typically announces new products in October, which could change with the Pixel Watch 4. Even if Google sticks with August and a September release, the next-generation device will be accessible several months later.

That has not stopped suspicions from spreading, with the most recent revealing full renders of the supposed forthcoming smartwatch.

The renders were shared by 91Mobiles in collaboration with Steve Hemmerstoffer, also known as OnLeaks.

There is also a video of the gadget from all angles, giving us a fair idea of how the Pixel Watch 4 would look, as well as some distinct 5K renders.

What features might be available on the Pixel Watch 4?

Based on the renders, it appears that the Pixel Watch 4 will resemble the Pixel Watch 3. The circular design continues, with the crown centered on the right edge and a separate button above it.

The video also reveals the strap mechanism, which does not appear to be changing anytime soon.

For the time being, nothing about the Pixel Watch 4 has been officially confirmed, but we would not be shocked if rumors about it spread in the coming months.

As a smartwatch, the 255S does an outstanding job of remaining useful while you are not out tracking activity. It is compatible with Android and iOS, and the experience of using the Garmin Connect companion phone software across those platforms is fairly uniform in terms of appearance and reliability while setting up, pairing, and syncing the watch.

The smartwatch features are same to those found on the 245. You have access to Garmin’s Connect IQ Store, which is not as high-quality as the Apple App Store in terms of programs, but it is a good location to obtain some extra watch faces, data fields, and widgets, but it can be slow to download and sync them at times.

Garmin Pay is also available here, allowing you to make contactless payments via your watch if your bank is supported, and it worked well for me when I needed to get a fast drink. However, it lacks the slickness and compatibility for banks that competitor watch-based payment systems provide.

Again, a touchscreen would be useful for interacting with the music features, but if you want to stream music, podcasts, and audiobooks on a sports watch, you should wear a Garmin 255s.

Other notable features include multiband GPS support (with dual-frequency support), which allows for more accurate GPS tracking, a barometric altimeter and compass (ideal for hitting the trail), and a plethora of cycling support, including VO2 max and the ability to connect to many bike gadgets via Bluetooth. The GPS support is worth highlighting because it is considerably more accurate, although it drains the battery quickly.

The Garmin Forerunner 255S is a watch that should last at least a week if you expect to utilize its primary sports tracking and smartwatch capabilities on a regular basis. Garmin says it should last 12 days, but getting there requires less use of core tracking modes. The MIP screen, as opposed to a power-hungry AMOLED, contributes to its long life.

The music streaming and continuous blood oxygen saturation monitoring are the main drains on battery life here, and they cause the battery life to decline substantially. If you can live without the 24-hour blood oxygen data, it is worth turning it off.

Pixel Watch 3 gets a life-saving feature: loss of pulse

A potentially life-saving capability is being added to the Pixel Watch 3 for the first time. Google said in a blog post that the FDA had approved its Loss of Pulse Detection feature.

Your heartbeat is tracked by the feature. Your watch will immediately switch on more precise infrared LEDs and search for motion data if your heart stops beating, which could be caused by cardiac arrest, respiratory or circulatory failure, overdose, or poisoning.

The Watch 3 will initiate an audio alarm and countdown if it detects that you are not responding. If you do not react, the watch will use your phone or LTE connection to summon emergency services, let them know you do not have a pulse, and provide your position.

According to Google, the watch will be able to distinguish between a real cardiac event and the user taking it off. Although safety features like crash and fall detection are not new, they are not as good as this one, which is why the FDA had to approve it first.

Heartbeats are tracked by other watches, although they do so far less frequently than the Pixel Watch 3. For instance, the Apple Watch automatically measures heart rate every three to seven minutes.

Google collaborated with cardiologists.

Speaking to The Verge in August, Sandeep Waraich, senior director of product management for Pixel wearables, explained that pulse detection is a combination of pulse, heartbeat, contact with skin, and “a bunch of other things like motion.”

Google collaborated with cardiologists to develop the feature by learning what a pulse loss on watch insights looks like. An AI system was developed using that data and tested on hundreds of thousands of hours of real-world user data from a wide range of individuals. Google next replicated the kinds of falls that would mirror someone abruptly losing their pulse by using stunt actors wearing tourniquets, which would artificially generate a loss of pulse.
