Hidden Pixel tools: 8 features that enhance productivity

The Pixels are even more feature-rich than Android. You find more the deeper you go. Given that he finds more features than Google even promotes, our own Mishaal Rahman may likely attest to that. And that speaks volumes about a platform that the majority of us use on a regular basis on our phones, which are our main devices.

Having spent years immersed in the vibrant and colorful world of Android, I have created certain personal favorites—features that are really essential yet still go unappreciated. Although you may be aware of them all, I’m willing to wager that many of us are unaware of them until we come across them in a random Reddit comment.

I now use these functions on a regular basis; some are exclusive to the Pixel, while others are available on all Android devices.

    Quick tap

Double-tapping the back of a Pixel phone activates shortcuts, which is a great gesture. I have my Quick Tap in Settings app set to pull down the notification shade, which I probably do a thousand times a day, whether it’s to ignore a barrage of Instagram direct messages or obsessively check for a message.

    pixel double tap feature d1ceb3a

Particularly when utilizing an app, it’s far simpler than reaching your thumb all the way to the top of the screen. I just need to lightly tap my index finger, which is where it naturally sits, to check who has ping-ed me, and then I can immediately resume my job while ignoring them. Easy.

    Clipboard manager on Gboard

Sincerely, I’m not sure how I’ll manage without this anymore. I’m always storing text snippets, URLs, package tracking numbers, and even Instagram captions that I’m still working on using Gboard’s clipboard manager. Additionally, it is located beneath Gboard‘s menu selections and is only a tap away.

    Gboard clipboard manager

It’s an underappreciated talent to be able to pin things so they don’t disappear after an hour. Additionally, it helps me fill out those nagging forms that always reload when I switch between apps. My sanity has been rescued numerous times by having lengthy responses stored in the clipboard.

    Smart text selection in overview

Who knew it could feel like such a victory to save one more tap? Long-pressing text in the app overview screen on Pixel phones allows you to copy it without having to return to the app.

    Smart text selection in overview

At first, it might not seem like a significant deal. However, those saved taps add up if you’re copying information one by one, for example, from WhatsApp to fill out a form somewhere else while making sure everything is correct. It’s a minor detail that helps me avoid a lot of conflict and irritation.

    Multitasking with split-screen

I believe this function to be equally useful on smaller devices, even though it’s frequently marketed for phones with giant screens and foldables. To avoid continually switching between apps, I regularly utilize it to run utilities like the calculator alongside other programs, again from the Overview page.

    Split-screen multitasking

I’ll admit that I occasionally forget it’s there, but I spare myself the hassle by arranging my programs into split-screen the instant I see myself switching between them too frequently.

    App pinning

It’s simple but incredibly underappreciated. I pin the app by choosing the Pin option from the Overview screen whenever I give my phone to someone, such as to pick up a contact or scan a QR code at a movie theater (you must first enable app pinning in your phone’s Security and privacy settings). This prevents them from inadvertently or purposely swiping into another app.

    App pinning

When I show friends and family a single picture, I can’t stop them from idly browsing around my gallery, but I can stop them from switching to Messages or Keep. It comes in particularly handy when my young niece or nephew borrows my phone to play games and I don’t want them to change applications or erase random notes.

Notification history if you dismissed one by mistake

It would be an understatement to say that this is a lifesaver. I vividly recall how taken aback I was to discover that Android even possessed this capability.

    Notification History on Pixel 6

I occasionally unconsciously swipe away notifications from a particular app out of habit, only to discover later that I truly needed that particular app. Even if accessing notification history through the Notifications area of the Settings app isn’t the most user-friendly method, knowing that those messages aren’t permanently erased calms my racing thoughts.

    Screen recording has built-in audio

In addition to recording the screen, Android’s built-in screen recorder also records internal audio, not simply microphone input. Every time you choose the option from the Quick Settings menu, it allows you to choose the audio source.

    Screen recording with built-in audio

I utilize the functionality for more enjoyable (and practical) purposes, but it’s also useful for sending how-tos to friends and relatives. When a song strikes, you can save synced lyrics from music applications to share with someone, record buggy app behavior to report bugs (and collect huge bug bounties, just saying), or record clear audio broadcast parts from YouTube.

The microphone does not pick up any noise during any of this. Furthermore, you definitely don’t need any dubious third-party tools for this.

    Quick Share

Fast file transfers between devices are a feature of Quick Share, however I use it more for myself than for other people.

    android Quick Share

I frequently have to transfer screenshots and images from my Pixel to my Mac for work. I can share files as quickly and smoothly as AirDrop if I have a third-party app installed on macOS. Even better, Google’s first-party Quick Share software functions flawlessly on Windows, so you’re in luck.

Google Pixel 10 Pro XL is the ultimate Pixel experience, featuring advanced AI – Gemini, unbelievable camera quality, impeccable design, and the next-gen Google Tensor G5 chip

I’m confident that there are a dozen more hidden gems like this in the UIs of Android and Pixel if I look more closely. However, I use these on my Pixel every single day. My flow and my sanity would be totally disrupted if I were to lose even one of them.

  • Is your Google Pixel safe? Users report swelling batteries

Is your Google Pixel safe? Users report swelling batteries

Many people commend Google’s Pixel phones for their dependable cameras and extensive software support. To suggest that they don’t have any concessions, particularly with regard to battery quality, would be inaccurate. Battery problems, especially with older Pixel models, have been the subject of numerous stories recently; in rare cases, the problems have resulted in overheating and even fire. The Pixel 7 series is currently the subject of a fresh wave of worry.

    pixel 7a swollen battery

Pixel 7 battery swelling reported by more users

More Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro owners are posting concerning experiences with their devices on Reddit and Google’s help sites. The majority of problems are related to battery swelling, which results in the back panel bulging and the display panel separating. Reports of these occurrences seem to be growing, with more coming to light in recent weeks, though some go back to July and August.

One user demonstrated that the front panel of his Pixel 7 Pro had already begun to detach from the frame. Another said that pressure from the protruding battery was causing a crack to form around the larger camera lens.

Another user reported that the lower edge of the AMOLED panel started to separate. The owner claims that the display finally popped out after a progressive separation over time.

Additional concerns regarding abnormalities in battery life are found when browsing these platforms. According to some consumers, the batteries in their Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro have severely deteriorated and now overheat when used frequently.

Battery packs that have been used a lot or are worn out are probably the cause. Since the Pixel 7 series was introduced over three years ago, a large number of devices have had high charge cycles and significantly worsened battery health.

    pixel 7 swollen battery

Is There a Fix for Pixel 7 Owners?

The Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro have so far had patching that is case-specific and unreliable. Many people complain that the warranty has already expired on their gadgets. Some people have chosen to cover the cost of battery replacements on their own.

Given the mounting worry, it might not be long before Google offers more extensive assistance, like a special repair program. How Google will respond to devices with further damage, such as warped back covers or cracked screens, is still unknown.

In addition to the Pixel 7, the Pixel 6a has issues with battery-related concerns, including as the potential for fire and explosion. In response, Google launched a repair program that provided qualified consumers with free battery replacements.

It’s still unclear if Google has actually fixed these battery problems in more recent versions, such as the Pixel 8, Pixel 9, and Pixel 10. Many people are hopeful that the company’s latest releases use better battery components.

  • Google Scam Detector will be integrated in social apps

Google Scam Detector will be integrated in social apps

Hardware and software are not the only things that are changing. The sophistication of cyberthreats such as phishing and frauds is also increasing. Google just unveiled a potent AI-powered scam detection tool for Android that provides real-time notifications while making calls and sending messages. It looks like the business is now extending this tool to third-party messaging applications.

Gemini powers Android scam detection, which starts as soon as a danger is detected. Before answering a call or even in the middle of a conversation, it notifies users. Despite its great effectiveness, the tool’s present functionality is restricted to native Android Phone and Messages apps.

    google scam detector

This exposes consumers to attacks on WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and Telegram, among other channels where scams are equally prevalent. Thankfully, it appears like Google foresaw this gap early on.

Meta Apps will soon get Google’s Scam Detection

The most recent Android System Intelligence update for the Pixel 10 indicates that Google is attempting to expand scam detection beyond Messages to other messaging apps, according to Android Authority.

Evidence of this enlargement can be discovered in code strings included in the update and in the Security and Privacy section of the tool’s settings.

It is anticipated that the feature’s settings would include a new toggle called “Message frauds.” “Get alerts about possible frauds in notifications of chat messages from supported apps,” the description says, implying third-party platform support. Millions of users might be able to avoid scammers before they even open a questionable mail thanks to this.

    <string name="not_a_scam_button_text">Not a scam</string>
    <string name="snackbar_text">Scam Detection paused for this chat</string>

Subsequent research reveals that the program may indicate questionable information or behavior by scanning messages within apps. In addition to having the option to completely or per-app disable the feature, users will be able to verify whether a message is a hoax. Users now have more control, particularly if they use a certain chat service a lot.

Which Apps Are Going to include Google Scam Detection?

According to reports, this feature will work with a number of apps, including Verizon Messages, Instagram, Facebook Messenger, Signal, WhatsApp, KakaoTalk, Line, and Twitter (X). After the feature is formally launched, more apps will probably be included.

Although the release date for this feature is yet unknown, it is something to keep a close eye on. Tools like these are becoming indispensable as AI-powered scams and more sophisticated attack techniques proliferate.

Starting with the Pixel 10 and later variants, we anticipate the feature to make its debut on Pixel devices. It should ideally spread to Android smartphones other than Google’s own.

  • Tensor G5 vs Tensor G4 – specs and benchmarks

Tensor G5 vs Tensor G4 – specs and benchmarks

Over the years, Google’s proprietary Tensor chips have progressively advanced to become a dependable everyday driver with strong energy economy. However, performance has frequently been a source of contention. Previous Tensor chips performed well on routine tasks, but not so well on intensive workloads like gaming. That might change with the upcoming Tensor G5, which promises notable performance improvements.

“Tensor G5 is our greatest upgrade yet and gives a huge performance gain,” the tech giant claims. The newest Tensor chip, which launched with the Pixel 10 series last month, is said to feature a 30% faster average CPU and a 60% more potent TPU. Additionally, this is Google’s first mobile chipset produced at TSMC’s facility; Samsung previously produced Tensor chips. Better performance and increased battery economy are promised by the Tensor G5’s use of a more sophisticated 3nm manufacturing node.

Will the Tensor G5’s major improvements, as promised by Google, significantly improve benchmark scores where earlier Tensor chips have underperformed? We’ll examine the benchmark numbers. Here is the specification document to view the differences on paper before that:

7 reasons why Google Messages offers the best texting experience on Android devices

Like nearly every other technological advancement, texting has improved over time. Although there are many tools that provide you more control over your messaging, the basic premise remains the same.

The most important thing is to identify the features that can have the biggest impact, even though the amount of functions can vary depending on the text messaging app you use.

Although Android offers many excellent texting apps, the Google Messages app stands out above the others, mostly because of its many robust features that make texting on Google’s operating system a breeze.

Safety starts with understanding how developers collect and share your data. Data privacy and security practices may vary based on your use, region, and age. The developer provided this information and may update it over time.

    OTP auto delete

    otp auto delete

Because everyone has various objectives, different people have varied ideas on the traits they believe to be the best. But generally speaking, features that execute tasks rapidly and with little user effort are the best.

An excellent illustration of this is the “Auto-delete messages” option. Once you give permission, it will automatically remove all of your one-time passwords and security codes from businesses after a 24-hour period. You may enable this from the Settings.

Toggle the Auto-delete messages after 24 hours option under Settings > Message organization to activate this feature. You won’t need to manually clean up those OTPs once this is enabled.

Personalized alert sounds for various contacts

Businesses, friends and family, and organizations are some of the sources of text texts. As a result, not all of them are equally significant and do not merit your precious time.

However, the ones that come from those closest to you are the ones you wouldn’t want to miss.

Setting up a personalized notification sound for your most critical contacts is one of the simplest methods to accomplish this. In this manner, the notification’s sound will instantly identify the sender of the message.

You can customize a notification sound for persons whose messages you need to respond to promptly, in addition to your loved ones. They could be your coworkers or even your employer. The answer is Google Messages.

    RCS

    messages

Perhaps the most significant aspect of the Messages app is its support for RCS (Rich Communication Services), which is the sole reason why many people utilize it.

With capabilities like the ability to send high-quality photos and videos, type indicators, read receipts, end-to-end encryption, reply to a specific message, and many more, RCS transforms the outdated SMS messaging system into a more contemporary one.

RCS isn’t accessible by default, though. To begin using these features, you need to activate it from the Chat features setting. Additionally, the other person’s phone number must have RCS enabled.

Because cross-platform RCS communication still lacks several crucial capabilities, such as end-to-end encryption, you receive the best RCS experience on Google Messages when both senders and recipients are using Android phones.

    Scheduled send

    Google Messages Scheduling Featu

Google Messages lets users create a message and select a time and date, after which the app will automatically deliver it to the recipient.

Despite how easy it seems, some of the most frequently used messaging programs, such as WhatsApp, still do not support this. Although scheduling a message in Google Messages is simple, the choice isn’t immediately apparent when you begin typing.

After entering the message, you must long-press the send symbol to bring up Google Messages’ “Schedule send” feature. After that, you may select the day and time you would like that precise message to be delivered to that individual.

You can alter the date and time or cancel the planned send if you decide to change your mind later.

    Spam protection

    Google Messages Spam Protection

Text messaging is one of the many ways that spam can happen. Depending on the platform, there are a number of strategies to prevent becoming a victim of spam.

With its spam prevention function, Google Messages provides one of the simplest means of safeguarding oneself against such malicious individuals. From the Messages Settings, you may activate this option.

When enabled, Google Messages will screen messages that contain such harmful links to phony websites and place them in the Spam and Blocked folders on your phone.

The program removes the possibility that you would unintentionally click on one of those links and provide your personal information to bad actors because those dangerous text messages aren’t accessible within the app.

    Pair with the web app

    web messages

When an app is available on several platforms, it becomes more helpful. Google Messages features a clever approach dubbed “Device pairing” to compensate for its inaccessibility outside of its ecosystem.

It enables Google Messages to be paired with any computer that has a screen and an internet connection.

You are using the same Google Messages app on your phone, but it is now operating on a different device via mirroring. You must connect your phone to the internet because your second device isn’t operating this natively.

This can be paired with your Mac or PC, or even with another phone. Tap the profile symbol in the top-right corner, select Device pairing, and then adhere to the on-screen directions to pair.

You can unpair Google Messages from each device if you are no longer using it on those devices. Additionally, it offers the ability to unlink a certain device.

    Pinned conversation

    Google Messaged Pinned Conversat

You must locate the contact you wish to send a message to before scheduling it. Although you can type the contact’s name into the search bar, this isn’t the most effective method, particularly if they are significant individuals.

You can pin or unpin messages using the pinning feature in the Google Messages app. In this manner, communications from certain people show up first when you launch the app. Therefore, you may locate those messages without using the search function or scrolling to the bottom.

One of Google Messages’ user-friendly features is message pinning. You simply hit the pin symbol at the top after choosing the message from the list. The Messages app allows you to pin more than one message.

Until you unpin them, those pinned messages always stay at the top. You must pick the pinned message and then tap the unpin symbol that shows at the top in order to unpin it.

Google Messages offers the best texting experience for Android devices

Like anything else, the Google Messages app has flaws. Its peculiarities might not be to everyone’s taste, and some people might find its UI a little cluttered.

But Google Messages’ robust features function so effectively that you won’t even notice how quickly the program becomes essential.

On the majority of recent Android phones, Google Messages is the default texting app. Therefore, it eliminates the need to search for a better texting app after the initial boot. It’s ready for you to start messaging your loved ones right now.

There are a lot of useful features in Google Messages, and when the app is updated, more are added. Additionally, it is among the Google apps that receive the most updates.

With this significant camera improvement, the Xiaomi 16 might surpass the Pixel 10.

It has been predicted that the Xiaomi 16 and Xiaomi’s flagship 16 Pro smartphones will include a significant camera update, however it might not be the one you were hoping for.

Digital Chat Station, a prolific tipster, posted an intriguing allegation on Weibo regarding one of the first large flagship phones of the upcoming generation.

The post claims that a far better selfie camera with a crisper 50Mp resolution—up from 32Mp in the Xiaomi 15—will be included in the Xiaomi 16 and the Xiaomi 16 Pro.

Both focusing and better low-light performance should be features of this selfie camera. In phones that support it, the latter feature always results in better selfies. In this sense, it will be nice to see Xiaomi‘s entry-level flagship catch up to the Pixel 9, iPhone 16, and Galaxy S25.

The tipster goes on to say that, like the Xiaomi 15, this selfie camera will record 4K/60FPS videos and enable a wide viewing angle.

The Xiaomi 16’s back cameras also need an upgrade, however the selfie camera appears to be the most notable addition.

It is said to include a new 50Mp 1/1.3 primary sensor, whereas the Pro model will also have a ToF (Time of Flight) sensor, which should enhance bokeh and focusing, among other things, and an extremely high dynamic range function.

According to earlier rumors, the Xiaomi 16 will contain a massive 7000mAh silicon-carbon battery, which is 75% larger than the Galaxy S25’s.

Pixel 10 Fold specs #leak before launch

Every single specification for the Google Pixel 10 Fold has been made public online, just when we thought the leaks would stop.

This comes shortly after the tech giant teased the phone in an official trailer, and just days before the major Made by Google event on August 20.

The whole spec sheet for the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, including all of its new features and enhancements, has been obtained by Winfuture.

Pixel 10 Pro Fold closed leak

First of all, the phone’s IP68 dust and water resistant classification seems to imply that it will be the first foldable phone to be sold. For a phone with a tablet-sized display that folds in the middle, that is incredibly astounding.

Additionally, it indicates that the panels would be 3000 nits brighter than they were previously and that the external display will enlarge to 6.4 inches.

It was unclear whether the design of the Pixel 10 Pro Fold would prevent it from receiving MagSafe-style charging via Qi2, even though it is widely rumored (and in fact confirmed) that the Pixel 10 series will. Nonetheless, Qi2 wireless charging at 15W is listed on the specification sheet.

    pixel 10 fold specs leaked

In addition, the telephoto camera appears to have a 10x optical zoom, and the battery is stated at 5015mAh, which is greater than both its predecessor and the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7.

Although the website confirms earlier rumors that the Pixel 10 Pro Fold won’t go on sale until October, you can view the complete specs below and check to see if they are accurate.

According to reports, the 256GB model will retail for €1,899 in Germany when it launches. For additional information in the meanwhile, see our coverage of the Pixel 10.
