    Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 vs Dimensity 9300

The two main flagship chipsets for Android this year are expected to be MediaTek’s Dimensity 9300 and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Both chipsets seem to deliver comparable performance, but AnTuTu’s most recent results suggest that the Dimensity 9300 in the new Vivo X100 has a slight advantage over the OnePlus 12 and its Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

A closer look at the numbers reveals that the Dimensity 9300 outperforms the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, with the MediaTek chipset scoring higher in the CPU and GPU tests. At first glance, the reverse seems to be true, with the OnePlus 12 ranking first with a total score of 2,188,135. The Vivo X100 comes in second with a score of 2,186,019.

The OnePlus 12 scores 493,187, whereas the Vivo X100 and its Dimensity 9300 register 515,745, indicating a roughly 5% CPU advantage for the MediaTek chipset. The difference is less pronounced in the GPU category, where the Vivo X100 scores 899,989, while the OnePlus 12 scores 887,620. Nevertheless, other Snapdragon 8 Gen 3-powered devices, such as the iQOO 12 duo, marginally outperform the Vivo X100 in this regard.

Evidently, the Dimensity 9300 edges over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in both the CPU and GPU tests. The OnePlus 12 having the higher AnTuTu total score is completely down to it having superior memory, with the reported 24 GB of RAM earning it a higher score in the memory test than the Vivo X100’s 16 GB of RAM.

The color-changing function that the vivo V23’s predecessor established will be maintained in the new series, but we do anticipate seeing some new colorways. Teasers also allude to a triple-cam configuration with a 64 MP primary camera.

A large battery with 66W rapid charging, a Dimensity 1300 chip in at least one of the vivo V25 phones, and 8 GB Extended RAM, most likely for the most powerful memory option, are among the other specifications that are known.

Stay tuned because as soon as all the information is revealed, we’ll have the announcement news ready.

January 21 – official release date for Vivo X60 Pro+

Vivo recently confirmed that it’ll unveil the X60 Pro+ on January 21 in China at 7:30 PM local time. The announcement came a few weeks following the launch of the X60 and X60 Pro.

It is also confirmed that the phone will come with a 6.5-inch AMOLED screen with a center-aligned punch-hole, 120Hz refresh rate, and 128GB/256G storage options. The device might also come in vegan leather color options ala Mate 30 of Huawei.

Geekbench and 3C recently showed a device with a V2056A model number that could be the X60 Pro+. It has 12GB RAM, 55W charging, and Android 11 OS.

But a new rumor from known leakers suggests that the handset might be powered by the unreleased Snapdragon 875 processor, a higher clocked version of the SD865 Plus last year.

Known leaker Digital Chat Station noted that the chip with SDM8250 UHF codename might be called Snapdragon 870 3.19GHz clock speed and a higher GPU frequency.

One thing is for sure, this will be vivo’s top-end offering of the year with interesting cameras and performance.

Funtouch OS based on Android 11 – when Vivo will roll out?

While Google’s latest Pixel devices are typically the first to be launched with Android’s latest flavor, Chinese OEM Vivo hit Google with its Vivo V20 last year. The device was the first new smartphone to launch Android 11 out of the box, hitting the new Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G by just a few hours. Since then, Vivo has launched a few other devices running the latest Funtouch OS-based Android 11 flavor, but the company has yet to release updates to older devices.

Although Vivo has previously released a Funtouch OS 11 beta for the Nex 3S 5G and the iQOO 3 4G/5G, the company hasn’t shared an update timeline for other devices in its portfolio. That changes today, as Vivo has now shared a Funtouch OS beta roll-out plan on Twitter. According to the tweet, Vivo has already started rolling out the Funtouch OS 11 beta to the X50 Pro last month. The Vivo V19 and X50 should start receiving their first beta releases by the end of this month.

Older devices, like the Vivo V17, V17 Pro, V15 Pro, and S1, will start receiving the first Funtouch OS 11 beta by the end of March 2021. The Vivo S1 Pro, Z1x, and Z1 Pro will follow soon thereafter by the end of April 2021. And finally, the Vivo V15 will receive its first Android 11 beta by the end of June 2021. The beta releases for all the aforementioned devices will roll out in a staggered fashion, with users receiving the update in small batches. Once Vivo ensures that the beta release doesn’t have any critical bugs, the devices should receive the stable version of Funtouch OS 11 based on Android 11. As of now, the company hasn’t shared a release timeline for the stable update.

It’s worth noting that Vivo has already launched a new Android skin called OriginOS, which is expected to replace Funtouch OS in the future. But, for the time being, the company hasn’t clarified exactly when the new Android skin will land on its devices. Currently, Vivo X60 and X60 Pro are the only devices in its portfolio to run OriginOS 1.0 based on Android 11.

Vivo is number #2 in India, beats Samsung

Samsung, which once led India’s smartphone market, fell into third place in the quarter that ended in December, even as the South Korean giant continues to make big bets on the still-growing rare handset sector. According to research firm Counterpoint, 158 million smartphones shipped in India in 2019 up from 145 million the year before.

Vivo, a Chinese company, surpassed Samsung in Q4 2019 to become India’s second-largest smartphone vendor. Xiaomi, with command over 27% of the market, maintained its top spot in the nation for the tenth consecutive quarter.

In 2019, Vivo’s annual smartphone shipment increased by 76 per cent. The aggressive positioning of the Chinese company’s budget S series of smartphones— priced from $100 to $150 (the sweet spot in India)—in the brick and mortar segment and acceptance of e-commerce sales helped it beat Samsung, Counterpoint analysts said.

Vivo’s market share jumped 132% between Q4 of 2018 and Q4 of 2019, according to the research firm.

Realme, who spun out of Chinese smartphone manufacturer Oppo, took the fifth place. Oppo took fourth position.
Samsung has dramatically lowered some of its handsets prices in the country and also introduced smartphones with local features, but is struggling to compete with an army of Chinese smartphone manufacturers. The firm has not responded to a request for comment.
Realme took Indian market by storm. The two-year-old firm has reproduced the country’s strategy for Xiaomi and has so far concentrated on aggressively low-cost Android smartphones being sold online.
Vivo and Oppo, on the other hand, have spread over the years to smaller towns and cities in the region, and have inked deals.
