If you are using Google Assistant on your Android phone, you can add interactive features to the lock screen by activating the Ambient mode function.
This is a smart sorts screen that turns on while your phone is charging and replaces the lock screen. Without opening the lock screen, you can view alerts, weather forecasts, play music, display pictures and perform a host of other functions. This article shows how to allow Ambient Mode in Google Assistant.
Activating Ambient Mode
First of all, if you haven’t already, you will need to download and install the Google Assistant app on your phone.
Once Google Assistant is installed, start the app and go to the main page.
Here you will notice the explorer option (the compass icon) near the bottom corner of the page. Tap on the icon.
This will take you to the Explore section of the app – the part where you can configure settings like alarms, the weather forecast, etc.
For now, ignore all the other functions on the Explore page and tap on your profile picture in the top corner.
A new list of options will drop down. Scroll down the list and select the Settings option.
A new page that shows your Google Account profile page will appear.
Scroll left from the page to the Assistant section. Once again, scroll down past the list of options presented to you. Near the bottom, you will find a section entitled “Assistant Devices.” There is a phone option under that section which you need to select.
On the new page that opens, scroll down the options available until you see the one titled “Ambient Mode.” Toggle on this option by tapping on the gray button next to it so that it turns blue.

In recent years, app subscriptions have become much more popular, with many Google Play applications offering free trials, too. But if you don’t use your subscription much, or were not pleased with what it had to do, you can cancel at any time. Not sure if the app itself would do that?
Instead you should go up to Google Play. And here’s how to cancel a Play Store subscription.
Pause a Google Play Store subscription
The first thing you need to know is that canceling is not the only available option. If you are short on cash, in some cases, you can pause payment for a month and continue your subscription on the next. Only some apps offer this, but it’s worth checking if they do.
Check which account is currently signed in if you are using multiple or sharing the device with family members.
Tap the menu button in the upper left corner (three lines), followed by Subscriptions.
Select the subscription you want to pause.
Tap Manage. If the app offers this option you will see Pause payments. Tap it.
If you will be able to select the time period you’d like to cause for. All that’s left to do after is tap Confirm.
We should note, however, that your subscriptions will be paused at the end of your current billing period.
Cancel a Google Play Store subscription
Not satisfied with what your subscription had to offer? Then it’s time to cancel. Follow these steps to do so:
Open the Google Play Store app and make sure you’re signed into the right account.
Tap the menu button in the upper left corner, then go to Subscriptions.
Find the subscription you want to cancel and select it.
Tap Cancel subscription and follow the on-screen instructions.
You may be asked to select a reason for the cancellation. Choose one from the options and tap Continue followed by Cancel subscription.
Don’t worry about losing part of your subscription — you’ll be able to use the software for the time during which you’ve already charged or the remainder of your free trial. The same goes with annual subscriptions. For example, if you signed up in March and cancelled shortly after, you’ll still be able to use the application until March 2021. It will not be automatically renewed after that.
The last flagship of Nubia is only a few months old, but that doesn’t stop the Chinese company from adding a new high-end smartphone to their gaming-focused Red Magic line. Following the growing trend of 5G-enabled phones, Nubia unveiled the Red Magic 5 G for its home market with outstanding features such as an air-cooling system and a high-refresh screen. In this sector, there is an unsaid rule: A handset can not enter the gaming-phone club unless it has a flashy design with some kind of RGB lighting. The Red Magic 5 G does just that and with its multi-colored, multi-textured rear finish, it takes it a step higher.
In addition to these hues, the unit aims to draw your attention with two vents on its sides, which are used to sustain the airflow using a miniature cooling fan, mimicking the kind of laptop setups. Combined with liquid cooling, it helps keep the temperature of the Processor down and curbs the heat produced by a 55W brick charging cycle.
For allowing smoother visuals when gaming, the Red Magic 5G’s 1080p AMOLED screen refreshes at 144Hz, which is perhaps the highest rate on any smartphone. It rocks a Snapdragon 865 along with up to 16GB of RAM and 256GB of on-board storage. The triple-camera system on the back includes a 64MP primary sensor, while the handset packs a 4500mAh battery along with an in-display fingerprint reader. It comes running the custom Red Magic OS, which is based on Android 10.
Pre-orders Nubia Red Magic
Nubia has announced that pre-orders for the Red Magic 5G are now live. You can deposit $30 to get a voucher to buy the phone as one of the first when it launches April 21. Every day leading up to that date, the first 100 customers will also be able to get the voucher for $5.79, saving them $24.21.
The version with 128GB of storage and 8GB of RAM in Eclipse Black will cost $579 (€579/£539), and a Hot Rod Red version that’s “coming soon” will go for the same price. There’s also a 256GB/12GB variant in a “Pulse” color that you can get for $649 (€649/£599).
The Red Magic 5G will be available in the US, Canada, the UK, the EU, and a few more countries around the world: Australia, Hong Kong, Israel, Japan, Singapore, Indonesia, Taiwan, and Macao.

Google could make A / B partitions mandatory to make Seamless Updates a regular feature for all on all future Android 11 apps. An XDA developer found a commit entitled “Require Virtual A / B on R launches” on AOSP Gerrit. Yifan Hong, a Google Project Treble engineer, submitted the commit.
The commit updates the Vendor Test Suite (VTS), which is a check to see if the Android smartphone is compliant with Project Treble. In this particular case, the test tests whether or not the Android 11 app supports partition A / B.
How do A/B Seamless Updates work?
The A / B partitioning system applies to duplicated partitions on the Android computer for those who don’t know. It helps OEMs to install the OTA updates that are not being used on the inactive partition.
The best benefit of this is “Seamless Updates,” in which users don’t have to wait until the update is activated on the disabled spot, as it occurs in the background. The system switches to the patched slot when it reboots, and follows the same procedure in the previously active slot when a new update comes in.
The advantage of the A / B partition system is that it helps prevent the effects of having a defective update enabled. This is because it only affects the inactive position. Even, to ensure smooth rollback, no modifications are made to the existing partition.
The only downside is that there would be more room for OEMs to reserve for the A / B partition system. This might not be a problem as smartphones nowadays generally have ample internal storage
As XDA notes, Google is yet to merge the commit, which means the mandatory “Seamless Updates” may or may not arrive with Android 11. But if it does, the change will undoubtedly be welcomed by the Android community.
After reading the post’s heading you may wonder. What is Mediatek, then? MediaTek isn’t really a smartphone company, personally. It is a term for a business manufacturing world-famous chips. Taiwan-based MediaTek Inc. offers chips for smartphones, televisions, laptops, navigation systems and much more. If you are using a Mediatek chipset-powered smartphone, you download Mtk droid tool to perform some Android OS-related tasks. Since the company officially releases the tool exclusively for Mediatek devices, it can be used efficiently by all the users.
Download and install USB drivers for the device – download from Droid Tools
Download the latest MTK droid tool
Windows PC
Recommended USB cable
Before you start:
Make a complete back up of your Mediatek device
Enable USB debugging mode on your device
Connect your device to the computer
Launch the application as administrator
MTK Droid tool will detect your device automatically and display information about your device
Now, click the “Root” button at the bottom of Window and Next, click “OK”
The process of the task will be displayed by a progress bar
It should be noted that this application is compatible only with Android smartphones powered by MediaTek chipsets and is not compatible with other models.
Android antivirus apps remain one of Android’s most common applications. Generally speaking, if you play it safely, you don’t need to have an antivirus program, just download apps from the Play Store and keep your security settings available. In the other side, however, there are those who enjoy taking a stroll and not doing those things. There’s just a lot of bad antivirus software out there. Even if those apps aren’t needed, knowing the safe ones that don’t suck is fine. Below are Android’s best Antivirus and Anti-Malware devices.
360 Security
360 Security is something of a mixed bag. Any of the protection stuff isn’t half bad and the other half is pretty bad then. The app scans your devices for possible malicious activity, but its detection rate is slightly higher than we would expect. Facebook is evil, and all, but it is not malware yet. In any case, this is a good, super simple antivirus app that shows you possible vulnerabilities and will do the scans. The software also includes a range of functions like phone booster and phone generator. We suggest that you should not use those at all because they are snake oil and they are not really operating.
McAfee is one of the big names of antivirus software. It is one of the biggest ones, too. The application provides features for screening, anti-theft, anti-spyware and security locking. Additionally, it can take photographs of your possible phone thief, record cloud locations until the phone shuts down, and other useful things. McAfee also has a number of other standalone apps. The UI is old, and looks not very fine. In addition, it has boosting features that don’t work and it needs the development of an account to go pro. The application’s antivirus portion works pretty well and some tertiary features are good.
Kaspersky is among the most common antivirus apps available. It has both a free version, and a paid edition. All versions provide SMS blocking and calling, scanning, malware monitoring and anti-theft. The premium edition includes items like the security in real time, an applock and more. Both models of course have malware scanning tools and things like that. It’s not nearly as powerful as the big antivirus software. Plus, it has no nasty booster features which don’t work. It’s good to see an antivirus app that doubles down on its intent, rather than trying to expand to items that make no sense. For many people, that makes it a good middle-of – the-road option.
ESET is another major name in the anti-malware and antivirus world. It includes scans, anti-theft support, a security auditor tool, scan scheduling, and more. The design is a little distracting. One of the few needing an email address is this. Otherwise, it would work reasonably well. Upon download, you’ll get a free one month trial. It goes from there for $1.99 a month, or $14.99 a year. As anything like AVAST or AVG it’s not quite heavy, but it’s heavier than CM Protection Lite or Bitdefender.
Malwarebytes is among the most common Windows antivirus software. The mobile version is also relatively fine. It features a collection of actively modified viruses, malware and ransomware support, a permission tracker, and more. It can also search messages for potentially harmful connections in WhatsApp, Email, SMS and so on. Obviously it even does the normal stuff like scanning. The app looks good, it works well and isn’t as heavy as others. This is also reasonably priced at $1.49 a month, or $11.99 a year.
All welcome to Friday. The last two weeks have seen a insane amount of sales, and things seem to have come down today, and yet I still have some amazing sales to share. Most importantly, for the next seven days, the amazing puzzle adventure game Monument Valley 2 is given away for free. I’d also be remiss if I didn’t mention Carcassonne and Little Inferno sales for the cards. As always, I’ve highlighted all the interesting titles in bold to promote the discovery. So without further ado, here’s 28 temporarily free apps and 57 on-sale games for the weekend.
