  • UK may increased Huawei restrictions

    UK may increased Huawei restrictions

Huawei ‘s recently had its share of rough times. By going through the chaos of US trade ban, to finding out how to market phones without Google’s Play services and mobile set, it’s been an adjustment time for China’s largest telecom. And now it seems the company is facing renewed criticism over the use of its products in the UK.

    uk ban huawei

The UK’s National Cyber Security Center has issued new recommendations on doing business with Huawei, according to a new report from the BBC, saying it can no longer verify the safety of Huawei ‘s products.

Curiously enough, this is due in part to the sanctions that the US has imposed on Huawei. Since the company will no longer work with third-party suppliers who produce some of its more high-tech processors, there is a possibility who materials will have to be purchased from a different, unknown source. The BBC also says the US sanctions basically prevent Huawei from using software that is critical to designing and testing chips before making them.

The United States may have considered Huawei untrustworthy enough to issue a trade ban, but the United Kingdom did not act as aggressive — or at least at first. We reported in May that the UK was reassessing its position, and planning to reduce Huawei ‘s contributions to the 5 G network infrastructure. It’s uncertain what the future holds in the UK for Huawei with this new growth. The company’s goods are already highly integrated, so quick removal of them will possibly cost a pretty penny. Parliamentarians are scheduled to discuss the new report in more detail later this week, when Huawei and network providers are expected to be asked about the potential impact of a ban.

Even if no major new actions are taken, it’s yet another obstacle facing Huawei. US trade restrictions have banned companies from doing business with it. Google apps and services aren’t coming back to its devices anytime soon.

  • Mi Control Center – iOS design quick settings panel app

Mi Control Center – iOS design quick settings panel app

    control center

Android may be more practical than iOS when it comes to updates for most users, but you have to admit that Apple’s panel and control center has a degree of polished elegance. Some users can also prefer the translucent interface and separate alerts, as well as fast pages change. If you’re one of those men, or just interested in trying out iOS on your Android device, Treydev’s new app might be worth a look at.

Mi Control Center: Notifications and Quick Actions is an app that allows an iOS / MIUI-style makeover for your notification and fast settings pages, including some cool animations that make it more fun to swipe down and access all of this.

    mi control center
    mi control center

The app defaults to separating the notification shade and quick settings into two panels that can be pulled up by swiping on different halves of the screen. If you’re not into that, the software can be set to show quick toggles on top of the notification shade just like stock Android. There’s plenty of customizations to play with, like setting an image as the background of the panels or changing the shape of the quick settings toggles.

Android and iOS in terms of usability and design have never been similar and this app helps make the difference even narrower. If you’re envious of iOS 14 and you want to get a tiny taste of what flipping will be like, give Mi Control Center definitely one try. Downloading from Google Play or APK Mirror is free, although some of the advanced customization options require a buy in-app.

  • Best gaming Android Rom – Corvus OS

Best gaming Android Rom – Corvus OS

Corvus operating system is fantastic ROM with many customizations. First, Dirty Unicorns inspired it (thanks to Alex Cruz), but then we picked many other features too. Our goals are a secure, feature ROM that many devices will enjoy. We ‘re not going to say Corvus is better than others but we’re still trying to give you the best.

    Next level customisation

If you thought that the best customizable ROM ever available for Android was CyanogenMod, then you’re in for a treat. Havoc-OS will bring customisation to the next level. When it comes to customisation the custom ROM is a beast. Quick something you can alter on your mobile. This is customisable if it exists.

    Battery Saving

Nearly all phones have a battery saver feature that will automatically be disabled if the battery drops below 15-20 per cent or you can even turn it on manually. But at Havoc, you get to do that with multiple features. One such feature is ‘Sensor block per packet.’ You can then turn it on manually. What this feature does is that it effectively blocks access to certain sensors on your phone for certain applications, and saves power. Another feature is ‘Alarm blocker’ which prevents you from waking up your phone when you receive notifications from certain apps. Sometimes using these power saving tools, you can get a huge increase in screen-on times.

    Quick Settings

Quick settings can be accessed by pulling the notification shade further down. Most Android skins allow you some basic quick settings including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Mobile data toggles, etc. Havoc-OS, on the other hand, can offer you multiple quick setting toggles, and even some features that wouldn’t previously exist on your device like screen recording (which can be accessed from the quick settings).

  • Disable trackers/loggers – Warden #root

    Disable trackers/loggers – Warden #root

It’s no secret that while on the Internet, we are constantly tracked. Although advertisers and organizations claim that monitoring users help them understand their actions and interests to enhance their programs, many users find that monitoring is intrusive. Some users may also end up sharing more information about their browsing habits than they expected, perhaps by visiting some unsafe or untrusted websites.

While its commonly believed that most of the tracking online happens while browsing the Internet on our PCs, there are hundreds of Android apps out there that come with built-in trackers to not just store information about you but also share that information with potential third-party clients such as advertisers.

If you take privacy more seriously than the average user and want to stop device monitoring on your devices, try a new open-source app named Warden that claims to block trackers and loggers hidden inside apps. Warden is created by WhyOrean, a senior member of XDA who is notable for his work behind the popular, unofficial, open-source Google Play Store client Aurora. Using root access, Warden allows the user to deactivate all trackers and loggers detected within apps. It also features a “debloater” that supports scripting, based on profiles. The software supports version 5.0 of Android, and above.

The Warden Program Manager uses a centralized list of trackers and loggers provided by Exodus Privacy, a French ngo. It reads the dex (Dalvik Executable) files within each device installed on your phone to see whether any of the class names from the above list match a known tracker or logger. In this sense, loggers means “all tools that are used to log user activity on an device or logcat in general.” WhyOrean states that not all loggers are bad, and some can be used to log user activity for specific (legitimate) purposes. There are however a few “like ACRA, xLog” logging tools that are powerful tools that can “send user data to devs without user consent.”

In addition to offering an insight into heinous trackers, Warden comes with a “De-Bloater” and “Nuke it! “Mode which requires root access to both. While the De-Bloater allows users to deactivate, hide or uninstall fishy tracker apps, the Nuke it! Feature allows users to scan all device-installed apps and automatically deactivate all known tracker components (Activities, Services, Providers, and Receivers). Both “Nuke it!” and “De-Bloater! Are currently considered experimental features, so be sure to visit the thread below to give the developer feedback if you have any problems or suggestions.

  • Alternatives to Gmail on Android – open-source alternatives

Alternatives to Gmail on Android – open-source alternatives

There are many reasons you may want to use an open source alternative to an application like Gmail. Security, security and promoting open source growth are top of the list, but the simple fact is that at the end of the day, an app like Gmail needs to produce revenue for Google to make the service worth providing. It must also serve a vastly diverse user base with tons of email needs and expectations you may not have, where a simpler, more stripped-down email experience would do the same. Below are a range of fully free and open source Gmail alternatives for Android.

All of these apps are simply clients for external email services, like Gmail and Outlook, so you won’t improve your privacy by simply using one of these apps instead of Gmail for Android. However, these apps do offer features like email tracking blockers, and they may work on devices without Google Play Services.

    FairMail

    fair mail

FairMail is a new email app that arrived earlier this year on the Play Store. It’s a pretty powerful email program, built by Marcel Bokhorst, the NetGuard firewall developer. It allows limitless synced accounts, a single inbox, the threading of messages and more. This also functions similarly to Gmail, archiving a document by a swipe to the left. Here are some pleasant privacy features to remember in FairEmail ‘s work. By default, messages are viewed in a ‘protected view,’ which excludes files, external images and other potentially useful elements to monitor you. For instance, services that monitor when you open a specific message do not function with safe view on.

FairEmail also supports OpenPGP signing, and doesn’t have any built-in advertisements or analytics.

If you end up liking FairMail, you can unlock an optional version of Pro for a $5.99 in-app purchase. Pro provides advanced notification settings, snoozing, scheduled sending, response templates, biometric support, a unified home screen widget in the inbox, and much more.

The only downside to FairMail is that it adds a persistent notification for syncing, but you can simply mute the ‘Service’ notification channel in the Android settings to hide it, and it will continue to work (or at least, it worked for me). Also, Exchange servers aren’t supported, only IMAP and POP3.

    K-9 Mail

K-9 Mail is the classic open-source email app for Android. Although there hasn’t been a major update in a while, it’s still the top choice for many people, especially since it supports Microsoft Exchange servers (2003/2007 with WebDAV). K-9 Mail also serves as the base for many other email apps.

    k9 mail

K-9 Mail has all the features you ‘d expect from a mail application, such as multi-account support, search function, multi-folder sync, flagging, signatures, OpenPGP encryption, etc. The gui leaves a lot to be desired — in a long time, I haven’t seen a Holo version — but it’s workable. In fairness, version 5.0 with overhauled UI is currently under development.

Unless you need something that only K-9 Mail offers, I ‘d probably go with FairMail instead, because that app has a more modern design. It is nevertheless always nice to have more options.

Galaxy S20 family supports AR objects in Google Search

Google Search helps you to view thousands of 3D models such as objects, pets, skeletons, cells, Neil Armstrong’s spacesuit and much more on many Android devices. You can push these objects into your home by pressing a button, and see them as if they were in the viewfinder of your camera. You can also snap pictures and take videos. The list of supported phones is continuously increasing — devices such as the Sony Xperia 1 II, the Poco X2, the Xiaomi Redmi K30, and the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite from Samsung made the cut we were tested in early June, and now a few more are showing up, including the Galaxy S20 series flagship.

    ar objects

What’s a big-name phone like that just coming to the ARCore list of Google now? That’s far from unique about how Google handles the file, and similarly, last year, the S10 family only showed up after launch. In addition to the updated list, Google is also expanding it to report compatibility with the new Depth API, our other major news of the day for ARCore itself.

The Galaxy Note10 + is an impressive handset, which as it came out sadly cost a whopping $1,100. Because its replacement could be around the corner, prices continue to fall. The international Dual-SIM version on eBay is now down to $740, which is $360 off the original price.

The Note10+ features 12GB of RAM, 256GB of internal storage, a 6.8″ Quad HD display, a 4,300mAh battery, and four rear cameras. As this is the international model, it has a dual-SIM tray and is powered by the Exynos 9825 processor. Also, it will only work with GSM carriers, namely AT&T or T-Mobile in the US, and isn’t compatible with other American carriers such as Verizon and Sprint.

The handset is available in Aura White and Glow, but black version are already sold out. The seller has received 99.6% positive feedback, as well as excellent ratings from buyers. However, if US Warranty is important to you, buying the American variant may make more sense.

Android Auto has recently reached 500 million downloads on the Play Store, likely due to its inclusion on most Android 10 shipping phones, and now two more Google made apps have reached major milestones.

Next, YouTube Go is now in the Play Store hitting 500 million downloads. Google has certainly contributed to that figure, with the app on all Android Go phones, but other Go system applications are still lagging behind — Google Maps is only 100 million, whereas Google Assistant is 50 million. YouTube Go seems to have a small number of organic downloads, presumably because of the data-saving features that are not available in the full YouTube app.

Already, Google Classroom has hit a milestone, albeit a smaller one—100 million devices. Classroom is not pre-installed on any computers, and that number is fully downloaded by users and installed by schools / organisations. The app has also returned to an average 4/5 star ranking, despite a review-bombing earlier this year by students hoping to escape remote schooling.
