Android 15: when you should expect to get the update?

Surprisingly, Android 15 was not made available on Pixel phones. Chinese company Vivo outperformed the whole Android ecosystem by releasing a solid Android 15 update first, following the stable AOSP release without a Pixel OTA update. Check to see if your phone is set to receive Android 15 if you do not already own the pioneering (and specialized) Vivo X Fold 3 Pro.

The developer versions of Android 15 could be tested on a few phones even before Google declared it had achieved “platform stability.” In order to choose which phones should receive the upgrade first, brands like Honor, Nothing, OnePlus, Oppo, Xiaomi, and others established their own official test programs.

    Google

The Pixel phones will be the first to get the upgrade because they are the flagship model for the Android operating system. Additionally, there are more Google phones eligible for the upcoming Android update this time around because the Pixel 9 phones were released prior to the 2024 release of Android 15.

    Samsung

After many years of poor updates, Samsung has started fulfilling its pledge to improve phone support. Customers may now know how long their phones will be updated to protect them from security dangers according to the South Korean company’s transparent software strategy.

At SDC 2024, Samsung did, however, declare that the One UI 7, which is based on Android 15, would not be made available to the general public until early 2025. However, the Koreans also mentioned that by the end of 2024, the One UI 7 beta will be accessible for public testing by developers and testers.

    Xiaomi

We expect that Xiaomi will further enhance its update program to meet (or surpass) Samsung’s, but only time will tell as the Chinese behemoth is presently switching from MIUI to HyperOS.

To find out which phones are promised the Android 15 upgrade, we may currently rely on the company’s official list of security updates. Furthermore, we highlighted in italics Xiaomi models that are not included in the Android Enterprise program but are promised the Android 15 update.

    OnePlus

By introducing really intriguing phones in 2023, like the OnePlus Open, OnePlus was able to quiet its detractors and equal Samsung’s flagship software update program.

While we are very confident which flagship OnePlus devices will get Android 15, the same cannot be said for the Nord mid-range versions.

    Sony

Even though the Japanese manufacturer has not actually committed to an official update program, Sony has been very reliable when it comes to Android updates despite having a limited phone range. The Xperia phones listed below are anticipated to get the Android 15 update:

    • Sony Xperia 1 IV

    Asus

In 2023, the Taiwanese company’s dedication to Android was momentarily called into question, and Asus swiftly refuted reports that the Zenfone line may be discontinued. The list of Zenfone and ROG phones that will receive the Android 15 update is extremely limited due to its small flagship lineup and short update strategy, which typically only includes two Android upgrades:

    • Asus ROG Phone 7
    • Asus ROG Phone 7 Ultimate
    • Asus ROG Phone 8
    • Asus ROG Phone 8 Pro
    • Asus Zenfone 10
    • Asus Zenfone 11 Ultra

    Honor

    • Honor Magic 6 Pro
    • Honor Magic V2

    Vivo

Vivo managed to beat not only Samsung but also Google at its own game. The Chinese brand released the stable Android 15 update before other brands to its Vivo X Fold 3 Pro smartphone, with its FuntouchOS 15 release. The next phones should be the ones that were in the beta program:

    • iQOO 12

MagicOS 7.0 based on Android 13 announced, rollout schedule

A day before the Honor 80 series and foldable Magic Vs were officially unveiled, Honor unveiled MagicOS 7.0, which is based on Android 13. The new version, which replaces Magic UI 6.2, will be available on all incoming Honor smartphones. MagicOS offers an aesthetic makeover along with a number of remarkable features.

Flat icons, fluid animations, and the new Honor Sans font are all part of MagicOS 7.0’s more streamlined design. Larger, more accessible folders are now housed on the home screen. A more individualized experience is made possible by the new widgets. A new built-in video editor was also unveiled by Honor.

The smooth file transfers, smart clipboard, call management, and notification handling between MagicOS devices and other Honor laptops and tablets are now known as MagicRing, according to Honor. A split-screen keyboard, smart widgets, and task manager support are further advantages for foldables. Another novelty, Magic Text, lets users scan and save text to PDF while also identifying text in photos.

  • Second 2022 flagship from Honor to be launched this month

Second 2022 flagship from Honor to be launched this month

Honor has been attempting to draw in prospective phone buyers ever since it broke relations with Huawei. It already sells some respectable mid-range smartphones and intends to compete with some of the best foldable devices available with its own model. However, Honor appears to desire a bigger piece of the flagship market because it plans to introduce a second high-end phone series for 2022 later this month.

Honor claims that it intends to surprise us with its forthcoming flagship in a tweet. On November 23 at 2:30 PM local time, China will debut the unnamed mobile device (1:30 AM ET). You shouldn’t because this launch is only for the Chinese market.

    honor flagship

Honor has so far kept the upcoming phone under wraps officially, but some rumors have already given away a few crucial things about it. A report from a Chinese source (via GSM Arena) says that the phone could end up being called Magic 5 and succeed the Honor Magic 4 that came out earlier this earlier. The same source also points out that the alleged Magic 5 could come powered by Qualcomm’s upcoming top-tier Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor. Given Qualcomm is hosting its annual Snapdragon Summit on November 15, that makes sense.

In addition, it is claimed that the phone uses a 6.8-inch PWM dimming, similar to the Magic 4 Pro, to lessen eye strain. On the rear, there might be a 50MP camera with an IP68 grade for water and dust protection. The phone’s amazing 100W wired and 50W wireless charging, however, may be its greatest feature.

But given our experience with the Magic 4 Pro running Honor’s unique Magic UI, the business need to put more emphasis on software this time. Honor might tone down its aggressive battery management, which unnecessarily terminates apps in the background, and generally simplify the interface. We would also value prolonged software support.

We don’t have any pricing details for the alleged Honor Magic 5 so far, but you can check this space after the official launch on November 23 to see if Honor has priced its new flagship aggressively or not.
